Physiotherapy
Physical therapy for injury recovery and mobility improvement.
Physiotherapy uses movement, exercise, and manual techniques to restore strength, flexibility, and function after an injury, surgery, or as part of managing an ongoing musculoskeletal condition. It is a core part of both non-surgical treatment and post-operative recovery across almost every orthopaedic condition treated at the clinic.
Types
Post-Injury Rehabilitation
Physiotherapy focused on early recovery after a fracture, sprain, or soft tissue injury.
Post-Surgical Rehabilitation
Structured physiotherapy following orthopaedic surgery, such as joint replacement or ligament reconstruction.
Chronic Pain Physiotherapy
Ongoing physiotherapy for long-standing conditions such as arthritis or chronic back pain.
Sports Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy tailored to athletes recovering from or preventing sports-related injury.
Common Causes
Physiotherapy is recommended whenever movement, strength, or function has been affected by injury, surgery, or an ongoing condition.
- Recovery following a fracture, sprain, or soft tissue injury.
- Rehabilitation after orthopaedic surgery.
- Ongoing management of chronic joint or back conditions.
- Muscle weakness or imbalance identified during assessment.
- A need to improve mobility, balance, or general physical function.
Signs and Symptoms
- Reduced strength or range of motion following injury or surgery
- Ongoing stiffness or pain limiting daily activity
- Difficulty with balance, walking, or general mobility
- A need for structured, guided recovery rather than rest alone
Diagnosis
Physiotherapy assessment involves testing strength, movement, and function in the affected area, building a programme suited to the specific injury or condition and the patient's goals.
Treatment Approach
Programmes are individually tailored and typically progress in stages, from basic movement and pain management through to strengthening and, where relevant, return to sport or full activity. Physiotherapy input is coordinated as part of the overall treatment plan for most conditions treated at the clinic.
